About IEDLI

The International Emergency Department Leadership Institute (IEDLI) is an educational initiative sponsored by the emergency departments at Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) in Boston, MA. Both of these Harvard-affiliated teaching hospitals are tertiary care Level I trauma centers that operate a combined total of 8 emergency departments in university and community hospital settings throughout the Boston area. Our state-of-the-art facilities have been designed by our senior ED leadership team to meet the needs of a high-volume population of acutely ill or injured patients. Our EDs utilize state-of-the-art electronic patient data tracking and computerized provider order entry systems developed internally by nationally recognized leaders in emergency medical informatics.

The BWH and BIDMC emergency department networks care for over 250,000 ED patients annually, employ over 100 ED physicians, and are the home institutions for two Harvard-affiliated emergency medicine residency programs which have a combined total of 84 resident EM physicians-in-training and 24 new graduates annually. Both institutions have extensive experience working internationally with both governmental and non-governmental partners to develop and improve emergency medicine education and emergency care delivery systems. Past and current international program sites include: Italy, Denmark, Iceland, France, Turkey, Central America, Japan, India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Liberia, Uganda, Mozambique, Tanzania and numerous other locations. IEDLI faculty members include senior ED leaders from within the Harvard system along with top content experts from the US, Europe, and around the world.
