Around the world there is increasing recognition of the growing demand for interdisciplinary emergency departments. While there are many opportunities to learn the clinical skills and knowledge of emergency medicine, there are few opportunities for members of the leadership team to acquire the administrative skills necessary to run these new EDs. ED leadership offers unique challenges: establishing the ED’s role within the hospital, educating a new generation of emergency physicians and nurses, setting up a smoothly operational ED, and forming a strong administrative structure.
Please note: This is not a course about clinical medicine but rather about administration. There may be some overlap of principles, but there will be little emphasis on clinical medicine other than how certain broad principles impact administrative activities.
After completion of this program participants will have a set of core competencies to get started or to continue work towards developing an integrated emergency department.
